Downtown Tempe is one of our favorite spots.Tempe Town Lake is a reservoir that occupies a portion of the currently dry riverbed of the Salt River as it passes through the city of Tempe, Arizona just north of Tempe Butte. Every time we come to Arizona, we make a special trip to Tempe to walk around the lake after dinner. Although Tempe has a variety of restaurants in town that caters to our vegan palate, this time we ventured to the neighboring town of Chandler to our favorite restaurant in Arizona The Pomegranate Cafe. On this trip alone, we visited three different times.
The afternoon we arrived, we even stopped at The Pomegranate Cafe as soon as we landed at the airport prior to heading to the condo we rented for the week. I cannot explain the culinary experience that occurs at the Pom. Everything is organic, and although they also cater to vegetarians, everything on their menu is vegan unless specified otherwise.
I have never had a meal that didn’t melt in my mouth, and to be perfectly honest, I wish I lived in Arizona, so I could frequent this restaurant more often. Everything is fresh, healthy and organic, and completely vegan. They honor all requests, if avoiding fat, or gluten, and the service and atmosphere are all fabulous.
The organic black iced tea begins the experience. It is my favorite. They do have beer and wine, but this is literally the best tea I have ever had. Paul apparently agrees, as you see two.
The kale salad is another must have if you have never experienced the splendor. The raw spiraled beets, the sunflower sprouts, crisp kale, and nutty taste of the tahini vinaigrette just marries the flavors together.
Although Paul and I usually order two different entrees, so we can share, we both wanted the Kung Pow Burrito filled with farm fresh veggies, brown rice, broccoli, spicy sweet tamari chili Sriracha with thai almond sauce. All I can say is OMG! The flavor in each and every bite is indescribable.
The daily specials include a unique soup, a daily quesadilla, a breakfast special and a lunch special, as well as a daily burger. Aside from the plethora of choices on the regular menu, the daily specials make it difficult to pick with items to select. This is why we visited three times during our vacation. There is only one Pomegranate Cafe, so if you are ever in the Tempe/Chandler area, and you are craving incredible vegan eats, you must stop here.
Check out the menu! If you think the juice bar, menu and specials knock your socks off, wait until you see the desserts.
I took a menu home, so I plan to make copycat recipes I will post on my blog!
