I’m not a big breakfast fan. Maybe its because I get up at 4 a.m., which is way too early for food. When Paul and I started the 6 week Furman plan, I changed my philosophy.
Although smoothies are a controversial topic to some doctors, Furman loves smoothies. The more fruit and greens the better. And since I can definitely drink a smoothie and call it breakfast, I jumped on board.
We have a restaurant/smoothie bar called Tropical Smoothie by our home. Although I have never eaten there, they offer healthy options and an array of smoothies.
Unfortunately, though, most of the smoothies are full of sugar, and they use canned fruit in some of their recipes. The only smoothie I drink there is called the Detox Smoothie. It doesn’t have sugar, but they use canned mango and pineapple. The smoothies run around $7.00 a piece; a little pricey for me.
My favorite smoothie recipe is simple and delicious and very green. I prefer my NutriBullet over my Ninja Blender for my smoothies. Although I love my Ninja, the NutriBullet is the perfect size for individual smoothies. After blending, I switch the blade for the portable top, and I am ready to leave for work.
Costco carries a variety of frozen organic fruit perfect for smoothies. My favorites are the organic mango, pineapple, and Antioxidant Berry Blend.
For this smoothie you need some Organic Power Greens (or any greens you prefer), a banana, frozen mango, frozen pineapple, and a big chunk of fresh ginger.
Add water, and you are in business. No sugar or maple syrup. The fruit is a natural sweetener, and the finer provides a wonderful tangy compliment to the fruit.Print
